After delays due to a workerʻs strike and Covid, our project to improve the signage, wayfinding and appearance of the garage that services The Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Waikiki hotels was finally completed yesterday. Hawaiian themed graphics and colors combined to convert a sterile garage environment to one that is inviting, bright and more fitting for guests of two of Waikikiʻs premier hotels.
TAHITI
I had the great opportunity to visit Tahiti last October. Arrived late at night and woke up to this view…the island of Moʻorea! It was just incredible to be in Tahiti…as itʻs been at the top of my bucket list for places to visit. Best things about the trip were, of course, seeing the incredible colors of nature, experiencing the warmth and aloha of the people, and knowing that the trip will be the first of many as we are blessed to be part of a design team, led by two God-inspired architect friends, that will create resorts which will be spectacular and also serve as a stimulus for improving the French Polynesia economy and the lives of its citizenry.
Hale Kipa
Envision is honored to have been selected to provide comprehensive rebranding services to Hale Kipa, a Hawaii-based human services organization that has been a lifeline for many of the state’s troubled youth for almost fifty years. In addition to developing a new brand story, promise, tagline and style guidelines, our work includes the design of a new logo mark, print collateral, building signage, and website. It’s been a wonderful and exciting experience working with the truly dedicated people that make up Hale Kipa’s ohana - staff and board of directors - and we look forward to the end of September when the new brand will be launched!
Heroes
I have always wanted to be a designer. Although I studied to be an architect, I’ve long been fascinated by the power of visual communications, using graphics, color, shapes, forms and type to inform, persuade, communicate. I am lucky that my favorite uncle, Tom Lee, was a graphic designer in Hawaii, the first in the state and in my opinion the best. First Hawaiian Bank’s logo was one of his many logo designs and it has stood the test of time...it’s 50 years old this year. In the design world, there are few individuals who have made as significant a mark in the field as Charles and Ray Eames. They lived and breathed design. The Eames lounge chair is iconic and instantly recognizable as an Eames. I was very fortunate to be a student of the Eames while in graduate school at UCLA’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning...I was in awe just being in their presence. My uncle and the Eames are my design heroes.
